FALSE ALARM....

An exhaustive investigation has revealed the yolasite is okay....

And the world breathes a sigh of relief... (where's the eye-roll smiley?)

No, really.

The yolasite is okay! Yay! Just go to www.g4gorilla.yolasite.com (no full stop). Paranoia prevents me from adding a hyperlink, though. Just copy-and-paste...

In another attempt by me to move from Blogger, and keep this blog as a backup, G4GORILLA is now also at www.g4gorilla.yolasite.com. Head on over and check it out...

I Wonder Who Made This Mashup....? (That was sarcasm - it was me and CjR Mix.)

It's got TWO VIDEOS on YOUTUBE!

Hmmmm... The fellow who made this video doesn't credit the mashup makers. Oh well, I think this mashup is on the "Sounds From A New World" compilation... maybe.

Strangely enough, someone ELSE was taken by the idea of posting this mashup on youtube, also with the apparent idea of making it look like his own work.

It's just a still picture, but it's got much better sound quality than the one above, if you want a better listen. If you're really keen, play the video above without the sound, and listen to the bottom one...

September vs Boston - Can't Get Over A Feeling (Demo)

There's a song getting radio airplay here in the Antipodes at the moment, called "Can't Get Over", by pop songstress September. The song reminds me of More Than A Feeling by Boston from 1976, so I've tried to meld them. The thing is, I'm not too sure about the match so I've put it for the time being as a demo. Hopefully I can get some helpful feedback via GYBO Tweaks, where you've probably just come from. If you can help out, that would be great.... :-)

Hot Chip vs Eagles - We're Looking For The Hotel California

This mashup features the instrumental from a Hot Chip song called “We’re Looking For A Lot Of Love”. I like Hot Chip, and I especially like this instrumental because it reminds me a bit of “Moments In Love” by Art Of Noise.

The Eagles song of course needs no introduction…

BodyRockers vs Timbaland/Furtado vs 50 Cent vs Flo Rida - Move It To Me Low In Da Club

This mashup consists of -

I Like The Way You Move… by BODYROCKERS (instrumental)
Give It To me …………....…… by TIMBALAND ft NELLY FURTADO
In Da Club …………......……… by 50 CENT
Low ………..........………………… by FLO RIDA

*UPDATE - JUNE 16*
Well, it turns out that this mashup is complete rubbish, and I've had the appropriate complete crash-and-burn on Mashstix. DJ Clivester, and the voting consensus, have indicated that the timing shift I tried didn't work. If you've just come from Mashstix to check out my effort anyway, it might help you to know that I think the problem is if you're very familiar with the original "Give It To Me" song by Timabaland, this mashup won't sound right to you. If, like me on the other hand, you never really heard the original song then you'll probably be fine. That's just my theory anyway, I could again be completely wrong.

In any case, I've learned a valuable lesson in my ongoing quest to become at least more consistent at making listenable mashups, and that lesson is to make sure I listen to the complete original tracks to better understand how they'll play out in a mashup.

Thanks for your time!

White Lies vs Lily Allen - Not Farewell

Post punk band-of-the-moment White Lies joins Lily Allen in her continuing search for consonants and the balance between love, security, and sexual gratification. Salt n Pepa have no such problems, and they make a cameo appearance to tell Ms Allen it's all about the mattress mambo.

Pet Shop Boys vs Whitney Houston vs Eagles - I Wanna Dance With One Of These On My Mind

The Pet Shop Boys' version of "Always On My Mind" is one of my favorite songs, so I was very happy when I stumbled upon the instrumental version of it. I thought about mashing an up-to-date acapella with it, but my experiments fell short. At one stage though, it was going to be another Lady Ga-Ga mashup with "Poker Face". "Oh no, more Lady Ga-Ga to pollute the mashosphere", I thought... although I was tempted by the "Always On My Face" title! :D

Anyway, I pasted in "I Wanna Dance With Somebody", and away I went. When I found the mashup needed something else besides, I pulled out "One Of These Nights" by the Eagles. I was very surprised by the result! I carried on.

So anyway, since I put this mashup on GYBO I've found out that10000 Spoons already combined the Pet Shop Boys and Whitney Houston songs on his "Boot Up The Eighties" compilation, and DJ Clivester was giving "One Of These Nights" a fabulous disco-dance treatment, which he posted on GYBO the day before me. So what? So I wasn't too original this time, but you get to hear even more boffo music with all these interesting sources, don't you?

Linkin Park vs Beyonce - (I've) Given Up (on) Single Ladies

*UPDATE* - MAY 4.
As you can see, this file has been removed. Please track it down - it's around...

Beyonce rocks! With some help here and there...

So far the best "Single Ladies" mashup I've heard is "Always Single", by the wonderful DJ Lobsterdust. Check it out - it features Lenny Kravitz.

My own attempt to make "Single Ladies" rock out is this pairing with Linkin Park's straight-ahead angst ridden banger, "Given Up". This mashup wasn't shaping up too good until CjR mix stepped in to kindly collaborate, and resurrected the track with some very nice production and some sweet additional touches. He got it done just in time for Ministry of Mashed Sound to include it on his "Sounds from a new world..." compilation. Check out the MMS site for full details.

Kelly Clarkson vs Whitney Houston vs Charlene - I Will Always Suck To Me

I was listening to "My Life Would Suck Without You" by Kelly Clarkson, and the first thing I realised was that the chorus is the same as "I Will Always Love You", a song made famous by Whitney Houston in 1992. I searched around and found a DIY acapella - I'm guessing the studio one would be like rolled gold.

Then, the structure of the verses from "My Life Would Suck" reminded me of a song called "Ive Never Been To Me".

"I've Never Been To Me" has been described as the worst song ever recorded, but those of us who are old enough to remember it should not have to suffer alone anyway. At any rate, this mashup will spare you, the listener, from half of the verses and a spoken interlude which you simply cannot listen to if you've just eaten breakfast.

Metro Station vs Killers vs Rihanna vs Backstreet Boys

Here is some more "noodling" I did with Metro Station's "Shake It" instrumental, before I move on to something else. It's a quick & cheerful experiment.

Acapella 1: Killers - When You Were Young. (Seems to work the best)
Acapella 2: Rihanna - Shut Up And Drive. (Seems okay but the acapella was so-so quality.)
Acapella 3: Backstreet Boys - Incomplete. (Acapella had drums, and some pitch problems... but I really liked it. :) )

Thanks for checking it out!

Britney vs Metro Station - Shake A Piece Of It

Overused, schmoverused...

Britney Spears (Piece Of Me) gets some help from Metro Station (Shake it), with some contributions from the TV media and a surprise (maybe) guest appearance at the end. Thanks for checking it out!

*UPDATE* - March 2 -
I just found out Wax Audio mashed these two tunes as part of a promo for a radio station about 8 months ago. Please check out his mashups at www.waxaudio.com.au... they're uranium enriched!

But don't listen to the radio station - they ripped Wax Audio off!

Matchbox 20 vs TI vs INXS - You Like How Far We've Come In Excess

For a song about impending global destruction, "How Far We've Come" sure is an up-beat little number.

Here at Gorilla Labs (a.k.a. my bedroom), I discovered it fits okay with "Whatever You Like" by T.I., which tones it down a bit. The INXS orchestration has been added in an attempt to inject a bit more desperation into it, but I'm not sure if it's thrown the pitch off a bit. I'll see what they think of it over at Mashstix.com. Meanwhile, please have a listen...

Mashup Number Two

Alright, so my first post went up okay. I may as well carry on, and post the rest of my musical noodlings while I'm here.

My second mashup is the Britney Spears' song "Everytime", mixed with the haunting "Song to the Siren" as covered by the group This Mortal Coil. It's a very ambitious attempt, but I think the changes in the music match pretty well with the acapella, even though the vocal "floats around a bit too much" (as Reborn Identity pointed out in his feedback on acapellas4u.co.uk). He's right of course, but check it out anyway, okay?...

This is a test.

Hello, and thank you for visiting this blog!

I've recently embarked on making music mashups. I don't really know what I'm doing, but just like most people who do it, I enjoy messing around with the songs for my own amusement. And of course I want to share them on the internet in the hope that other people might think they're worth listening to.

The following mashup was my first. It's music from The Smiths' song "Barbarism Begins At Home", and vocals from the Mika song "Relax (Take It Easy)". If my test works, you can play it here -

Or download it by clicking HERE.
